Purdue OWL website

Hello readers, hope you all had a great weekend. I sure did J

Have you all gone on the Internet to look for some websites that could help your argument look and has much more stronger points? I never once did that. I did not realize that there were websites out there that guided us through the arguments we are trying to present. It was really cool watching Dr. Wood giving us that PowerPoint presentation in the class last Friday.

The OWL website basically guides us through our writing. Let’s admit it, people- we often do get stuck on our paper and spend hours sitting there by the computer thinking what’s the best way you could write your paper. When that happens, just go to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl. You are able to get everything you need to write your paper in this website.

You need to write your thesis statement? You need to develop an outline? You need to figure out what to say in your introduction? You need to know how to do APA citation? The questions just do not stop there. Any questions can be answered in that website. The impressive thing about this website is its organization because there are so many things on this website and yet it looks really clean. It has tabs in general words like “Research and Citation” and when you click on it, it opens up different tabs like APA format, Avoiding Plagiarism, Internet References and so on. On that website, we won’t get lost with a lot of information because its organization is really well done.

I decided to check out other websites that could give me same information as the OWL website could. I came across this website http://writing.colostate.edu/index.cfm. I was really unimpressed with how it presented itself compared to the OWL website. It did not provide concrete information as OWL website provided us. I got very limited information, but one thing I could say that I wish OWL website had was the feedback on your writing. I saw on other websites that you could submit your work in the website and get feedback on it. It is a great way to be very confident with your work when the day you have to turn in your work.

So, overall- I would say I recommend the website to college students. It has all of the information to make your paper a success. A plus for you college students for sure ;)

  1. That is true, most of websites are not same as OWL because OWL is so advanced with state of technology.. This kind of website is helpful for college students becasue this website have everything in it. Good thing that Dr. Wood gave us that presentation because she gave us a better resource than lusnford to use with our writing!

  2. Nice audience engagement with this blog and I didn't think of to look at other websites to compare with OWL. Good to know you haven't found a better website than OWL.

  3. i never knew there were websites that could guide us too. It would be awesome if OWL could give us feedback not just the teachers or students. We need fresh perspective. :)

  4. It is a good thing that you included a negative comment about OWL website to prove that your message is adequate. You found a fault in the OWL website that is "glorified" to all of us. That makes your message a stronger piece.

  5. It's awesome that you pointed out something else you wanted from the website but the problem with other peoples feedback is that sometimes they're not right but you change your paper anyways thinking they're right.

  6. I am impressed... you were able to find out one thing the rest of us didn't find out. And that is proof in itself that all students don't write the same way. We all use different forms of writing, and you have pointed that out very well in this blog. This made your blog a strong piece of writing, great job!

  7. Agree with you on how unimpressive the second website you provided is. It did not provide clear information like the OWL.

Like the way you write your essay. You showed up in the essay and instead of writing same old blog that talks all about the OWL, but you compared it with other website. Very good!
